QR (Quick Response) codes are two-dimensional barcodes invented in 1994 by Denso Wave for tracking automotive parts. Unlike traditional barcodes that store data horizontally, QR codes store data in both horizontal and vertical directions, allowing them to hold significantly more information — up to 4,296 alphanumeric characters. They can be scanned instantly by any smartphone camera.
Business cards: Encode your contact info (vCard) for instant saving. Marketing: Link to websites, promotions, or social media profiles. Payments: Mobile payment systems like Venmo, PayPal, and many international payment apps. WiFi sharing: Encode your network name and password so guests can connect instantly. Event tickets: Digital boarding passes and event entry. Restaurant menus: Contactless menu access became standard during 2020.
Ensure sufficient contrast between the code and background (dark code on light background works best). Test your QR code with multiple devices before printing. Minimum recommended print size is 2×2 cm (0.8×0.8 inches). Add a short call-to-action near the code (e.g., "Scan to visit our menu"). For print materials, use high error correction so the code still works even if partially damaged.
